Getting Out On The Water

In this first blog for Water Sports topic, I provide a view details about my interests and what I hope to achieve in this blog.

Welcome to my first blog as Water Sports feature writer on Suite101. In this blog, I hope to bring a few entertaining and informative anecdotes from my times out on the water; as well as hearing your stories and tales.

My main passions in the watery world are scuba diving and sailboarding (windsurfing); but like most water sports devotees, I dabble in other areas as well. I water ski reasonably well, and can body surf like any born and bred Aussie boy. As anyone who's been out sailboarding and scuba diving knows, being a good swimmer is a necessity. So when I can't be out on the water the next best thing is churning up and down the local pool.

For the last few years I've been aiming to join the long-board surfing craze that appears to be picking up around the world. The plan is to buy a Malibu board then hit the beaches of Australia's Gold Coast. This won't happen until late 2008 when the Aussie summer down under rolls around. Even though I enjoy the water, I’m also a wimp and like the water warm!

I’ve got a whole stack of anecdotes and stories to share; but what will make this blog much better is to hear your stories. It might be a funny story, or maybe a safety on the water type issue that sharing could help someone somewhere in the world.

So send in your stories and comments and together we can make this an entertaining and useful water sports blog.
